Movie night: Lucy

Image
Today I decided to go see the movie "Lucy" after work with sis. After meeting incentives for my job, me and other coworkers on our team all got gift cards and one of them was for the local theater. ^^ "Lucy" is about an American woman studying in Taiwan who gets thrown into a drug trafficking deal.  She's knocked out and wakes up on a hotel bed to find out she's been turned into a 'drug mule' that's assigned to transport drugs to Europe. Under unknown circumstances she becomes held captive by Taiwanese thugs, gets abused and kicked in the abdomen, and that causes the bag of drugs to break and wreak havoc in her system.  Eventually, she finds that the drug somehow gave her superhuman control over her brain. The movie was really entertaining and I was always anticipating what she would do next as her ability to control her brain increased. In the beginning of the movie, I took note of how the scenes would switch between 'Discovery...

Brief Movie Reviews: Prometheus; The Hobbit; Iron Man 3; Wreck-It Ralph; My Neighbor Totoro; Toy Story 3

Since I've been watching lots of movies these days, I thought it would be cool to share what I've been watching and my brief thoughts on each of them.  I think these short movie batch reviews might be cool if you're looking for something that's not too deep but just a short snippet of what I thought of them.  Enjoy! Prometheus  Rating: 5/10 The first thing I thought about this movie was why do they have to have so many landscape shots for the first 10 minutes of the film?  lol  Did they have any significance?  I don't think so... This movie was pretty much what every critic told you to expect.  I read all the spoilers and reviews before watching this so I wasn't as disappointed as I should have been.  I wasn't even freaked out by anything.  And they call this a thriller... =_= I highly recommend anyone who watches this movie to pirate it (as to not waste your money) and make sure to read spoilers, critic reviews, and parodies before...

Movie Review: Star Trek Into Darkness

Image
Hello friends!  I had the opportunity to watch two of the biggest summer movies with my dad in theaters within a day of each other (Star Trek Into Darkness and Iron Man 3).  Since I watched Star Trek Into Darkness first, it shall be the first to be reviewed. Surprisingly, after absolutely LOVING the first Star Trek movie, I wasn't all that excited about the second one.  Maybe I was getting tired of movies always having this trend of getting darker as the series go on.  :/ Besides all that, I was taken aback at how great this movie was.  I don't know what I was expecting and I couldn't exactly imagine a Star Trek movie being bad; I have this sci-fi, space travel bias.. This movie had everything: -Drama -Action (tons of it) -Fights on moving vehicles -Alien duke outs -Battles in warp -Hostage bargaining -Suspense -Romance -Space jumps -Politics -Deception, -Character development -Great villain -Awesome CGI & practical fx -AND they eve...

The Twilight Movie Saga is FINALLY over!!!

Image
I went to see the last installment of the Twilight Series, Breaking Dawn Part 2 just because I had already watched the first three so I'm like, we've gotta watch the last one, just for the hell of it, lol.  I went with mom on this one. And so ironic that in the post just before this one I'm b*tching her out, lmao.  Well, if it sounds that serious, it's not really.  Our personalities are just SO alike, that we often clash with each other.  We get over it fairly quickly. If people look at reviews for the whole Twilight Series, it's often leaning toward the negative which I understand, because there are TONS of Twi-Haters out there.  I think it has something to do with them hating Stephanie Meyer's guts because her writing style sucks with her love for repetitive adjective spamming and they wonder HOW and WHY her books somehow got popular, even getting turned into movies.  I personally don't hold any hatred for Mrs Meyer.  Sure, she's set feminis...

The Dark Knight Rises :DDDDDD

Image
OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OOOOOOOOOOOMFG!!!  This movie was seriously the freaking BEST of the summer!  I don't think anything's gonna top this one. The theater was pretty crowded seeing that it was only a few weeks after the mass shooting incident (my condolences and prayers go to those victims).  I felt bad for those people while sitting in that dim theater before the movie.  I thought about how horrified they must have felt when the realized that there was a real shooter trying to kill everyone there......  I probably can't even imagine.  They only wanted to watch a good movie!  I find it really sad that there are people in this world who feel like they have the right to take the lives of others, especially innocents.  That man who killed those people, he's not only a murderer, he's a thief.  He didn't just kill them, he also took them away from family/friends who loved them.  Well, the movie was nothing short of amazing, as...

The Amazing Spider-Man: A sleek revamp of the series

Image
I went to see The Amazing Spider-Man with dad earlier yesterday and I really liked it!  I have to admit, I was a bit skeptical of Andrew Garfield playing the role of Peter Parker but I was pleasantly surprised to find out that he does fit the role, nicely.  I've gotta stop this bad habit, judging before watching, dammit... lol My dad didn't seem to enjoy this film as much as I did.  He was saying something about it being too similar to the first Spider-Man movie and gave it a 6/10.  I thought, OMG is he serious?!  This film is almost nothing like the first besides the fact that Uncle Ben dies. :\  Some people's powers of observation are sadly weak!  (>_<) I feel that this film is deserving of a 7 or 8/10.  The pace was a bit slow imo but it was well balanced with action and romance scenes.  It also seemed more innocent and not as emotionally heavy as the first installments of Spider-Man by Sam Raimi.  I think it's because th...

Movie Review: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt 1 & 2

Image
Hooray for the 100th post~! (^0^) I finally got to watching the last installment of the Harry Potter series (The Deathly Hallows Pt2) last night with my dad (and may I add that he was so loud, especially on the quiet parts of the movie, I even had to elbow him and tell him to be quiet... And then he's laugh at inappropriate times, so embarrassing, thank God it was dark). Sorry to say but after viewing it for the first time, I really prefer Pt1. I don't know why, maybe it's because I liked the scenery better or those particular scenes opposed to the 2nd part of the movie. My favorite scenes were the one with the doe patronus and Harry & party running down the streets of London and when they infiltrated the ministry. I'd have to watch the last Hp movie again to give a better review because sometimes when I watch the movie again, I have a better impression of it. The last movie was full of effects and flare. I was trying REALLY hard not to compare it to th...

Disney's Tangled: Beautiful, Engaging, and Magical

Image
I saw the Tangled movie this past Thanksgiving with my sister. I usually don't like to pay full price for AMC movies but I gotta say, this is one of the best $21 I've ever spent on a theatrical movie. Even my sis, who isn't much of a critic, said that this was wayyyy better than the last 2D Disney flick, The Princess and the Frog. She said that she felt the magic with Tangled but not with the other movie. I think so too. I honestly wasn't expecting much from Tangled, just because a lot of the animations that have been coming out lately weren't so great. The trailer also had all this crappy music paired with it so I was like, okaaaay, is this going to be like one of THOSE movies? But this was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The 3D animation was absolutely gorgeous and a real treat to watch. The story was also funny and moving, with endearing characters. There was none of that mainstream shitty music. The songs in the movie were original with the characters singing and beautiful...

Movies: March 2009

Image
This month, I've seen Coraline, Confessions of a Shopaholic, The Reader, and Into the Wild. Coraline is probably one of the best I've seen out of all of these but that's my personal bias since I love animated things. The animation is stop motion so it must have taken some time to get all the scenes right. It makes me appreciate all the work and detail the animators put into this film. The story is quite dark. Some people might initially compare it with Tim Burton's work but the feel is very different when you watch it, especially after you hear the music. It's interesting because the music has a very lovely, lighthearted, wispy touch yet the underlying story and meaning is so sinister. I think it's this contrast that makes the movie so memorable and fun to watch. The Reader was an intense movie and a must see if you like deep movies that make you think. I recall Kate Winslet won an academy award for that movie and she rightfully deserves it. I wou...

Twilight

Image
recently, i've watched the movie twilight on christmas eve! :D it was a fairly good movie. i'm one of those people who read the book first so bear with me on my picky-ness. it's very 'real' in the style of filming. i think it's mostly thanks to the music which isn't like the dramatic harry potter orchestrated music in the background. this movie actually had some songs incorporated. i seriously thought that this movie.... well, i was more like HOPING for this movie to have the dramatic orchestrated music but ah, no matter. it was also filmed in the exact location of the book so that's definitely a plus with the true and beautiful forest of forks washington, including the eerie and misty beach of la push. lol, the funny thing is that during the early half of the movie, i started to have the urge to pee (of course -__-). i had to suffer through it until the part where bella is in the ballet studio with the bad vampire and by that time, i think my bla...
