Online Friends: the complexity of messaging

NOTE: When I say 'online friends', I mean friends you met and converse with primarily online opposed to in person. And once again, I've created another long ass essay on a first world problem! 😊👍 I've had only a handful of online friends over the past decade. (I feel so old when I say that.. lol). I exchanged emails with one of them for maybe 10 years now.. One of the things that I really struggled with and still struggle with today is message response time. How long should it take this person to respond to you? How long should it take you to respond to them? Should you respond to them in the same amount of time it took them to respond to you? My brain hurts... 😱 I honestly believe that the 'rules' of texting-and-email-etiquette for dating and friends you see on a daily basis doesn't quite transfer well into the realm of penpals and online friends. This is because you've never met this online friend in person, or maybe you did meet them but o...

Job hunting *Siiiiiiiiiigh...*

Image
A cake mom got for me ^^ It's been about a month and I'm super happy to say that I passed that NCLEX exam!! ***\(^ o ^)/*** Flowers from my sister.. (>w<) Once celebrations were over, reality soon kicked in and now I'm doing what most sane people hate doing..... Job hunting. Bleh I was so stressed about everything that happened: pressure to pass the NCLEX, the job hunt, anticipating buying a new place, hoping I won't be an unemployed sack of potatoes for too long withering away until not even my reputation can save me... All this stress seemed to implode within me and I ended up having what's called a stress rash . I admit, it kind of sucked although I won't complain much since I'm sure worse things could happen; I should be grateful that it was only an itchy rash on my torso and arms. Somehow, my face was spared. (o_O) Now it's been about half a month since I passed NCLEX and my stress rash seems to be going away. I started to drink ...

Final chapters

I've been feeling more nervous about this semester of nursing school for some reason. I should be happy, ecstatic even. But I feel anxiety. I thought about this a lot while walking with Max and it occurred to me that, this is probably because this is a final chapter. I think of life being in chapters. There are the chapters of grade school, chapters of high school, chapters of a first job, etc. This happens to be a chapter of nursing school and it's going to be over in a little over a few months. It's kind of unreal, because it's played such a large part in my life. Even my classmates in nursing school, whether I like it or not, play a large part in this chapter. I personally like the changes of classmates in college classes and I didn't really like how we were essentially stuck with our 'cohort' for the entire two years of nursing school... But that's how it is. I always thought to myself, I wonder when I'll be able to be free of this class. And n...

My feelings during clinicals and how I deal with them

I just got my clinical assignment for my final semester of nursing school. When I look back, it seems like I've gone through a lot even though it hasn't even been 2 years yet. This made me reflect on my previous clinical experiences and how I dealt with some feelings that would arise. Clinicals can be anywhere from very fun to very stressful. Factors like who your clinical instructor is, the rapport between your peers, patients, the nurse you get assigned with for the day, and just your own personal threshold makes all the difference in the world. First Semester This was the semester where we all went to assisted living facilities for our clinical. This was the hard and dirty work for us. No passing medications, no full assessments (although we did some light assessing), and no true collaboration with nurses. It was much more about starting from rock bottom. Nurse aide work. That means building raw skills like feeding, toileting, bed baths, transporting, and...

Cringe moments where I need an intervention

Image
If anyone else has watched danisnotonfire's youtube video of cringe attacks, *high fives*. I have these moments a bit too often for my taste. Probably because I don't have enough to keep my mind occupied. Bad memories (usually where I made a fool of myself) from the past creep up on me all too often. Like today, this moment from last semester in school re-surfaced where... okay not even going to talk about it or else I'll keep thinking about this forever. (-__-) The gist of it is that I just shouldn't care about what people think of me and instead put my best face forward. I worry too much about what others think of me. Period. And for some reason, it's always worse in a work or school setting. Social settings? Meh. But work and school are the killers. Now this is where the intervention should set in. There are so many times where I wish that I could have an existential crisis when I get my 'cringe attacks'. I mean, wouldn't it be so great if e...

Life Update: 2015-04-12

Hello again. I haven't done one of these life updates in a long time. I'm sure many can guess that it's because nothing interesting has been happening lately and I have no interest in writing about my boring life. orz  *Warning, emo post below* But I suppose that recently, something has been quite eventful; I've finally started the college program I've been waiting so long to get into (a little over 2 years to be exact) and I'm almost finished with the first semester! \ ( "> v <" ) / I think that if people have been reading my blog from the beginning, it will seem like I've been in school for-f*cking-ever which is kinda true and kinda not. I've been in and out of school for the past almost decade to be exact. I would say that my life is about 70% school and 30% 'me' time. I'm extremely fortunate and lucky enough to not have to be working during this program. There are some people flip-flopping their sleeping schedule, wo...

How to deal with a condescending person

In case anyone doesn't know what 'condescending' is, it's when someone does anything and everything to appear and feel superior to others.  They have the need to express their superiority, especially by treating others as if they are are less intelligent than them.  They usually do this by 'talking down' to a person and treating them like a child.  Other common characteristics of the condescending person is insufferable bragging and bossiness. At my current job, I'm at an information front desk.  I'm literally grounded to a 'tiny island' area unless I have a lunch or break. One of the coworkers I work with is the most condescending, boastful, and micromanaging-obsessed person I've ever met.  There are a lot of things she says to me that makes me realize how condescending she is.  It seems that even though I've been working at this job for almost half a year, I will always be in the purgatory of 'in-training' with her and she...

To Mars and back: My clinical experience in a nursing home

3-21-2014 Hey guys!  I'm sorry I've been away and neglecting blogger for so long.  For these past couple months, I've been taking a certified nurse aide (CNA) course and have finished the three longest days I've experienced in a while. I had 3 days of clinicals at a nursing home and I chose to go on the therapy unit.  I thought it might be slightly less depressing than working on the long term care unit. One thing I can definitely say is that after finishing those clinicals and then going back to my secretarial-type of job the next day, I feel like a fish thrown onto land for a while and then thrown back into the ocean.  Either that, or being teleported to another world and then teleported back.  It's all been so surreal and I wonder how long I'll be thinking about this. This experience has really opened my eyes and has me thinking constantly about future senior care.  It's not uncommon that the majority of the population has a very negative associa...

Do you still dream about your first crush?

Image
It's been about 8 years and I still dream about the guy...  It's so weird.  Why would I care about a person that I didn't even know well after so long?  My subconscious doesn't seem to want to let him go. My mind always had a strange way taking an interest in guys.  Like, they didn't necessarily have to be super handsome or good-looking.  It's like my mind just takes a random interest in someone and it might not even be my 'ideal' type! When I was in high school,  for SOME reason, I took an interest in this tall, skinny, Asian-looking white dude.  Well, I think he was white.  He looked kind of Asian since he had straight black/brown hair, pale skin, and dark eyes but I could tell that he wasn't pure Asian.  Plus, his last name was English.  Who knows, he might have been mixed. This is the guy that would haunt my (every so often) dreams.  I do admit, he was pretty cute having nice skin, dark eyes, and silky hair.  I t...

My revelations of this year

Hello lovelies ! ! !  ^^ I was thinking about some valuable lessons I've learned this year.  I've put them into the form of (hopefully) inspirational quotes. We all have those bad days where we get angry and frustrated; but I think that even though a person gets upset, they can still come out a winner if they've learned something from that experience.   Here's some of the things I've learned and hopefully they will help and inspire others. 1. Don't be too sad about something ending; try to think of it as a new beginning. Leaving a job, moving to a new town, ending a relationship...  these are some examples of 'endings.'  But I'm fed up with being sad and depressed.  Why not take the optimistic approach?  I've found that thinking of endings as new beginnings makes me feel so much more content with the situation and hopeful for a new experience. 2. Live in the now. This is a great lesson I learned near the end of the year...

Life lessons

Image
I went on a refreshing walk this evening and it made me think about things I've learned throughout my life.  I was so happy that it was breezy because it kept the evil mosquitoes at bay.  Unfortunately I didn't get to see the stars but I did see some beautiful silhouettes of clouds.. 1. If you want something done, don't expect people to come to you.  You have to go to to them. 2. You can influence people but you can't control their actions, values, or beliefs. 3. Complaining won't get you anywhere.  It's better to think of solutions to your problems. 4. What matters isn't what other people think of you; only you know your true self and no one can take that away from you. 5. You have the power to become who you want to be, you just have to be willing to put in the effort.

It's so hard to save money... even if I don't go out!

Hello again!  I know I've promised to write more but sometimes it gets so redundant.  So that's why there's about a week gap between now and my last post.  This may happen again if I don't have many fresh blogging ideas.  I've been watching a lot of movies lately.  Redbox has become one of my new best friends!  Hehe, jk.  I even went to the library to attempt finding some good fiction and eventually failed, ending up with only travel books, lol (but travel books are cool!  No bashing intended).  So it's back to movies for me..  And since I'm not the most articulate writer, I thought, hey, why not just make some brief reviews for whatever I'm watching?  Alas, I shall save that for another day. It's been really hard trying to save money.  I want to save enough for my future nursing school tuition.  Surprisingly, it's not been as easy as I anticipated.  I mean, even if I commit my life to not spending money on frivol...

What should I do with my life?

Image
I'm sure most people ask themselves this question at some point in their lifetime.  Hell, they might ask this question all the time. As for me, I'm still in my 20's and it's proven to be one of my most lost and confusing years. I've been in school literally around 4-5 years and still haven't gotten a bachelor's from it.  I feel lucky to have somehow put together an Associates degree. When I think back, I feel like I've been spending a lot of time running around aimlessly, unsure of where I'm going or why I'm doing this. It's nice to say that I haven't spent every waking moment lost and confused but I still feel that a lot of time was spent experimenting with no real direction. I think the only good thing I got out of this was that I learned so much about myself that I probably never could have learned in other ways...  Which is actually quite a great thing but not so much in the eyes of society. At this moment, I'm remi...

How to say "NO" without saying no

Image
Have you ever been around this person who always seems to ask favors of you?  Do you feel like you're a sap who's being taken advantage of?  And do you have a difficult time just telling them "NO?" Well today is your lucky day because this post is just for you guys! :D I thought about this issue today because I recently encountered a person that tried to take advantage of my kindness at work this afternoon; I now realize how important it is for us nice folks to be prepared. I can completely relate to this situation because I'm the type of person who wants to please everyone and I usually don't refuse if someone asks something of me (except for money & car rides, lol). First lets talk about my experience at work. ************************************************************************************ The area I was in generally needs keys to open locked items and it's kind of annoying because there's so many workers but only two pairs of key...

Looking at things in a different perspective

I was thinking about small, petty things that used to bother me when I was younger.  I thought about what I've improved on in my life because I feel that I have a lot of issues, lol. So one of the things I thought about was how I would be bothered by something that someone said to me or maybe certain actions that someone did or did not do. One of the big things was how people might not comment or take notice of something that I did to my hair, clothes, makeup, etc.   Over time, I thought to myself, why do I care?  Do I feel the need to be accepted?... noticed?... or maybe I just wanted an ego boost.  Then I thought, hey, does it really matter if a person comments on whatever I did or not?  What truly matters is that I care about it! People can comment all they want about something but if you don't care, none of their comments really matter. The moral of this particular story is, if you like what you did about yourself, then that's all you should nee...

Gossip Bug

Today was my first day back to work after a week.  For some reason, I was overly hyper today.  But it wasn't like I entered work feeling like the social butterfly of the year.  I started my day walking in on one of my fellow associates from my home department and she loves to talk; I mean, she REALLY loves to talk.  So I entertain her by sticking around, (mostly) listening. I think it all started when I ran into one of my previous teachers a little bit later.  Only problem is, it's been 10 whole years since I've seen the lady so although I clearly recognize her face, I cannot for the life of me connect her face to 'who' she is.  This is probably the first time I felt like I had memory loss or a form of amnesia.  I felt pretty stupid because she obviously knew who I was but I had no idea who she was. Anyone else run into this etiquette hell?  So she comes over and gives me a big hug and I sort of go along with it because I do recognize her; I j...

5 Pet Peeves

Image
*NOTE: Lots of swearing and bad language await you in this post.  Read at your own discretion. I was inspired to create this post after watching some youtube videos of people elaborating on what annoys them the most.  Anyway, lets start with my major annoyances!  :D 1.) People who don't express thanks This one really gets to me and to all those people who do this and assume others know that you're thankful, go-to-hell.  We're not mind readers!  When people don't express thanks, even if they do feel thankful inside, the other party WILL assume in the end that this person is a totally unappreciative jackass.  They shouldn't go accepting something or some favor without acknowledging someone's sacrificed time and energy on them.  I honestly feel like people who act this way believe they're entitled to walking all over other people's good intentions which is just not cool. 2.) "Mall walkers" aka. People who think they own the sidewalk/walkwa...

Sometimes I wish I just didn't care.......but...

I find it kind of weird that I have so much psychological stuff going on in my head but I don't even have a label for it. I thought it would be a good idea to write about things like feelings sometimes because maybe if someone else has the same issue, they can read this and think, hey, I'm not the only one feeling this. Sort of a kinsmanship kind of thing. Omg, so cheesey but whatever! Lets get rollin'! Hopefully this won't sound stupid but even if this may seem like a small issue, lots of these issues combined can make a bigger issue. (wtf too many 'issues'...) So I'm in a class and there's this girl at our table who is senior to the rest of us by at least 5 years. I knew from the very beginning that she was a somewhat controlling person. I usually make character psychoanalysis's at the very beginning of every class for most of my classmates that I see or converse with, of course, they are all hypothetical/theoretical since I don't k...
