Cooking Korean FOOD & other dishes :3

Image
And yet again I wait so long to make a post, especially in the summer when I'm supposed to have all the time in the world.  (-___-);; I was really motivated these past 2 weeks so I decided to expand my cooking repertoire and learn to cook some delicious Korean dishes. After I started watching this family Korean drama called Ojakgyo Brothers (omg she's talking about dramas AGAIN?), I was inspired to try cooking some Korean dishes.  I researched and found maangchi (http://www.maangchi.com) who is really awesome because she organizes her recipes very well so it was easy for me to find a few that I would like to cook.  She also makes simple, well organized, and easy directions for how to create each of the recipes. The super-awesome-kick ass-delicious dish pictured above is called Patbingsu and like the Japanese Kakigori, it's a refreshing ice dessert, except more healthy!  I noticed the main difference in the ingredients between the Japanese and Korean versions...

Getting back my GAME on!!!

Image
Somehow I always get some type of my brother's "hand-me-down" games, consoles or any other kind of electronic device to borrow.  Last time it was his PSP, then it was his LCD computer screen, now it's his Xbox360.  Since he so kindly let me borrow it, I thought I might as well use it and play FFXIII again.  I've played that game before but I had a lot of fun and since I have time now, I thought, why not do a replay with that one? I put two boxes below the xbox; I read somewhere online that it's bad to put it directly on the carpet.  Something about the carpet blocking and clogging the vents underneath. I ordered FFXIII online.  I was thinking about just ordering the PS3 version but my brother is using the PS3 for playing netflix and it's in the basement up high on a shelf in front of a giant treadmill; not a good location to play video games (-.-).  I was close to also ordering FFXIII-2 but I might try waiting that one out until my brother perha...

Went to the Korean side of town today for BBQ

Right now I'm still getting over my "meat-hangover" lol.  If you don't know what that is, it's an endearing term I've made up just now about how I feel after eating all that meat.  It feels like I still haven't digested and sorry if this sounds gross, but if I burp, I can still taste the meat mixed with sikhye.  xP I went with my parents and sis to a Korean BBQ restaurant downtown and I finally got the chance to participate in the activity of grilling my own meat at the table! :DDD  Actually, dad and I did most of the work, my mom wasn't really into that, just eating the meat lol.  My sis was the same, she didn't show interest in grilling. (-_-) We ordered three kinds of meat, bulgogi, some other plain thin sliced meat, and chicken.  Lots of grilling work was left to me and dad.  But it was fun and I feel it's something cool to do at a restaurant, especially if you have a group of people.  I guess it could be cool with two people too but it...

Finally finished Rooftop Prince~!!!

Image
I skipped out on so many of these reviews that I'm falling behind...  I recall watching and finishing about 3 more dramas earlier this year: Bachelor's Vegetable Store, Hungry!, and most recently finished, Rooftop Prince~!!!  <3 (^o^) This drama was really funny and had a good balance of happy, sad, and hilarious scenes.  All the actors were great, I especially enjoyed watching the prince and his three musketeers and their adaptation to the 20th century from the Joseon era. x3 I honestly never thought that I would get into watching DBSK's Micky Yoochun in a drama but I was pleasantly surprised and found that he has an amazing talent for acting as well as singing.  He has proved himself attractive as an actor in my eyes ("*o*") Micky, how are you so flawless~~~?!  \(>o<)/ I don't speak Korean but I felt that his performance as a Joseon prince was quite good and to me, it seemed like he did the role justice. I love these guys! Th...

My thoughts and experiences on friends

WARNING: This post is extremely emo, read at your own risk! Back to the main topic: FRIENDS.  I thought I should write out a heart to heart about this after being inspired by heart to heart videos on yt.  Also because I had a long talk with my mom about my experiences on friends while on my trip to HI and why I feel the way I do now about friends based on my life experiences so far. Going back a good number of years, I remember moving at the tender age of 13.  I recall it really sucking to the max having to move far away from cherished friends I've known and grew up with since elementary school.  I moved to a place that was so completely displaced from where I originally lived as well, me being Asian, I moved to an almost all white neighborhood and the culture was completely different too.  I basically had to start my last year of middle school with no friends and nobody I even knew!  Now that I think back, it seems like a really crappy time to switch s...

How I'm spending my Spring of 2012

Soooooo, after my lovely Christmas and New Years, it was back to the grinds for me.  This semester was a bit more busy with two heavy science classes, Anatomy/Phys II and Microbio along with Microecon!  XD I know in previous school posts that I said that my attitude towards school had changed toward the more scholarly?  Well, it has changed yet again.  Fickle me!  Yeh, so this semester I've been more laid back about everything which is good and bad I guess.  I feel sometimes that I should just attend and enjoy my classes and the material should come to me better than if I stress myself out over everything.  I think it worked to a certain extent. We've got finals coming this week for the science classes and I'm honestly more worried about microbio because we have a good amount of diseases to remember..  (-__-)  I'm wracking my brains just trying to figure out how to categorize everything. I'm finding myself actually enjoying my microecon...

Yuzu and baths

Image
I was thinking about all these fun cultural facts that I find out about Japan from the mere fact that I kind of obsess over Japan like how a Japanese person might obsess over France. So Yuzu is this citrus fruit that, aside from cooking purposes, Japanese put into their baths during Toji (aka winter solstice) to guard against colds, rejuvenation, and simply for relaxation because it smells so nice. It makes me wish that I had a bathtub that I could soak in.  :3  The smell must be so invigorating!
