Ouran High School Host Club Review: So wonderful but too short-lived!

Yeh, yeh, I know. I have no life right now to have time for all these dramas. xP
The amount of dramas I watch come in waves. Now happens to be peak drama season for me. (*__*)

This is one of those dramas where I thought it would be really stupid but then it blows me away by it's awesomeness. I finished it in less than two weeks too! Record time for a drama series although this series was also a short one.... so sad, it was really great!

I remember watching the anime for this show way back when but I don't think I got to the end. Anyway, from what I've seen, the characters were chosen VERY nicely. I don't even care if Tamaki's and Honey senpai's hair isn't blonde as that seems to be a pet peeve for a lot of hardcore fans. Whatever, I think they did an excellent job with their characters.

But the one and only person who I thought was so so sooooo PERFECT for his role was the actor Daito Shunsuke who played Kyouya. He is the GOD of sexy megane shounen (AKA: glasses boys)! It's like the anime version of Kyouya jumped out of the TV and entered reality. (o_o)

They're the SAME!!!! lol

Warning: Some Daito Shunsuke spam below...

It's a bit scary how much of a difference glasses can make to a guy's sexiness level.

Agreed. :D

What do you think, glasses on or off? I say on! Daito is cute without the glasses but is so much sexier WITH!!!

Second favorite character lineup, Tamakiiiiiiiiii!!! I feel that Yamamoto Yusuke did such a superb performance with Tamaki's crazy character. Tamaki is very hyper and full of energy. I think Yamamoto-san executed this in the best possible way. I can't think of anyone better right now.

CGI was used in this drama but opposed to the Skip Beat drama, the CGI in Ouran High School Host Club was done in a much more tasteful and appropriate manner. Tamaki is shown growing mushrooms in the closet, lmao.

Beautifully executed costume scene among many others.

Character chart. The whole cast was amazing imo. No complaints here!

My two favorite characters! They look good together (not in the way you think! I swear I'm not being a yaoi fangirl right now xD)!

I found this pic so funny because even before I read the description, I thought the exact same thing! XDXDXDXD

I was so sad that this show was only a mere 11 episodes that were only 30min each! That was previously unheard of to me as all the dramas I've watched last at least 1hr. I guess they must've been on a tight budget. There was quite a bit of CGI used and the settings were fairly elaborate with the rich kid school... I wish there was moreeeeeeee!

I'll miss you Ouran High School Host Club!!!! You were a really fun drama to watch-! (ToT)
This was a short series but amazing in their ability to portray the story and memorable quirky characters!

Just finished watching my first period drama: The Moon that Embraces the Sun!

This was one of the 'popular' dramas I saw on mysoju. I never really got into a period/historical drama before and since everyone was raving about "The Moon that Embraces the Sun" being so amazing, I decided to give it a shot. Of course, I get addicted from the start, lol. This drama is clever too because I usually start to lose interest from the mid to ending part of the drama but this one kept me hooked until the end. They've got some pretty nice cliffhangers for each of the episodes.

The story is one of those that starts off with the characters as children and then they transition over to adulthood. The beginning is shown to be tragic but there is redemption at the end. Cool story, likeable characters, colorful costume designs, and beautiful historic scenery; mostly of the palace and villages.

The synopsis is somewhat complicated so it would probably be better to just look at it on dramawiki. In my short summary, I say that this is about a girl who falls in love with the crown prince and is almost appointed to be the queen but evil conspirators in the palace work to tear the two apart using dark magic of shamans. Then the crown princess somehow becomes a shaman, yada yada yada... Of course they get back together in the end but only after many sacrifices, heartache, drama..., etc. :D

All the characters, IMO, did a great job and even the child actors were very talented. I even felt a bit sad after they changed to the older actors which I usually don't. Their performance added a lot of magic and bittersweet happiness to the show especially as they were around during brighter times before the dark undertone started taking effect of the story.

These two were so cute together!

Awwwww, I'm gonna miss all these guys! (;__;)

So after watching an actual historic Korean drama, I feel that this type of drama is soooo much more intense! The dramatic scenes and the incentives and motivations of characters are a lot more complicated with the ginormous social etiquette and hierarchy system that was so common in the Joseon era.

Remember I mentioned that the side characters were really likeable? As a result, I found myself more drawn to the side characters stories instead of the main characters' story.

My fav side character was Un, the sexy bodyguard. lol

Who would've thought that this sexy beast was also the 'a-hole' in 2NE1's music video "Go Away?!!!!!!!!!!!"
This makes me totally believe the saying if someone is ugly on the inside, no matter how attractive they are, it will make them look ugly on the outside as well. (o_O) But anyway, Un is oh so handsome in this drama~! *internal scream*

I always seem to fall for the quiet, mysterious warrior guys when it comes to fantasy/historical shows. There's just something really special about them. (''^___^'')

With me being me, I like to think up and try to predict different 'possible' scenarios for all the characters and I was SO convinced that Un and Seol (who were both the warrior types), would end up together! I was waiting and waiting for a possible romance to pop up between those two but it never did... In all honesty I was quite surprised because it just looked so convincing and there were these little hints here and there... Well, if you ever watch this, you'll know what I mean. I guess the writers could have changed their minds towards the end because Seol started to do a 360 in her actions and seemed to be interested in someone else (I won't say who) but I still had hope for UnxSeol........

So, yeah, I finally finished this bad boy and got over all the super drama with the wrap-ups of characters and it was like a huge weight lifted off my shoulders to be honest. Yes, the drama is THAT heavy. (>.<);;

I haven't seen too many historical dramas but as of now, I feel that I'm not all that interested in the complexity of Joseon's social hierarchy system and more interested in the life of historic Korea outside of the palace. Like with all the warriors and stuff. xD (omg, back to the warriors again?! lol)

I have "Iljimae" sitting on the side so I might try watching that one since it seems like there's less palace life and more action/adventure outside palace walls with the whole 'Robin Hood' theme. (^^)

"The Moon that Embraces the Sun" was very good but it made a bit tired with all the social politics and hierarchy system drama so I don't think I'll be watching a period drama similar to this one for a while. That's some crazy shit the people in the Joseon era had to deal with!

Oh and lastly, I just want to mention that the music in this drama is AMAZING and so BEAUTIFUL!!! You can always tell how much impact the music has if you can remember the tunes after watching it. Now everytime I see pictures of certain scenes of this drama, I think about the little tune that was playing in the background. x3

I feel this composition is the most memorable or just represents the drama series as a whole...

... while this tune is the more magical and lighthearted and less dramatic version of the composition above.

Piko Utatane dragging me back to the Vocaloid world

I think it was a couple of months ago but I somehow stumbled across Piko.. I really can't remember where I found it but I think I saw this video on a blog with Piko singing different anime openings/endings in female and male voices. I looked more into this intriguing character and eventually discovered the awesomeness of Piko.

In a nutshell, PIKO is basically a ryouseirui or "amphibian/both species" singer who can produce both a male and female voice. He's also the voice provider of Piko Utatane for Vocaloid2.

I really like his voice because it sounds different in the way that it's not exactly masculine or feminine but somewhere in-between which is pretty awesome. He also looks very feminine, I'm sure there are a lot of people who would see his pic and wonder, "is that a guy or a chick?" lol. I feel that I've seen enough metrosexual and feminine guys to know if it is a male or female I'm looking at so I immediately realized that he was a boy. ;)
I happen to be one of those girls who are really into the whole feminine guy look, at least, on celebrities. I think it's quite attractive for a guy to care about his personal appearance and embrace beautiful things in general, regardless of if it's aimed toward females or not. That seems to be the case in Asia (Japan/Korea) where there's a huge amount of male celebrities categorized as 'pretty boys', especially in Japan with the whole Visual/Oshare kei thing going down. x3

OKAY! Back to his songs, I sort of got out of the whole Vocaloid thing a while back but I did find a song or two that I enjoyed from Piko Utatane. One of the really catchy one's is called "Remember." Long song but I'm already addicted. (^-^)

Piko as a solo singer is also really popular given his cute and pretty look which matches his voice so of course he'll be given his own record contract! :D He's made several so far and I love almost every one of them! Here's a few popular ones below.

"Nisoku Hokou" with Piko showing off his sweet ryouseirui skills~!!!

"Sakurane." I wish they used more of the traditional Japanese visuals. They were really nice! And Piko looks so pretty in the kimono. ("^.^")

So gorgeous! (*___________*) It's one of my dreams to be able to take a pretty picture in a kimono... Someday.

All in all, I think Piko is a very talented singer who should get more credit. He's like a dream come true for me because I like Jpop but he adds in a bonus as he also sings Jrock <3 <3 <3 AND has a vocaloid voice so he's pretty well rounded, including the little fact that he can sing as a girl, boy, both, and everything in-between!

I noticed that after Nick Pitera on youtube who sang "A whole New World" in his female and male voice counterparts got popular, maybe others are noticing and coming out or something? lol, like... it's more acceptable now because people aren't as homophobic as before, seeing as the singers who are 'hybrid' singers are usually guys?

I don't see myself listening regularly to Disney songs sung by Mr. Pitera but I am a regular for Jpop and Jrock so with my discovery of Piko, I'm happy as a cat drunk off catnip. :3

If you haven't heard Piko yet, you should listen to a few of his songs! He has a beautiful and addictive voice!
